Fil coupè

Arte Tessile produces Jacquard and Raschel fabric designs ranging from curtains to clothing. Fil coupè is a technique that improves the fabrics. Through additional wefts that will be trimmed later, it is possible to add motifs or colour effects, while keeping the fabric light with a uniform background and a steadier hand.

By playing with this technique, it is possible to refine the fabrics and create very intriguing effects, such as transparencies or fringes.

Most looms can handle designs with floating wefts, but if you have any doubts, we are available to assess every detail.

Even if it is not only used within a small business environment, due to the complexity that can be attained, this process is often very niche. Some fil coupé fabrics need many heads being put together in the design stage, and then skilled hands to make the designs into fabrics, tricks and subtleties which are more crucial the more you need to use double, triple, and perhaps even quadruple trimmings. And like all demanding projects, they then lead to really special and unique fabrics!
